For years I've read news stories about dental mercury amalgam fillings that failed to ask vital follow up questions for one to form a better understanding of the true risks involved with exposure to mercury fillings. Rarely was a toxicologist, neurologist or bio-chemist interviewed. Instead, the stories would always give dentists such prominence when promoting the safety of a substance of which they knew nothing about, all while never acknowleding the much lower levels of mercury at which our government has removed other products from the market. So now I'm doing what I can to help raise awareness of the many dangerous aspects of dental mercury fillings.

The International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology is a network of dental, medical and research professionals who seek to raise the standards of scientific biocompatibility in the dental practice with information from the latest interdisciplinary research.

Consumers for Dental Choice (CDC) was established in 1996 by consumer advocates, mercury poisoning victims, scientists and mercury-free dentists, and soon thereafter became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. Our purpose is to educate the public about the health and environmental dangers of mercury fillings, and to ensure more effective government oversight on amalgam.

Dental Amalgam Mercury Solutions (DAMS) has available, upon request, a list of “holistic” or “biological” dentists, who are trained and equipped to replace amalgam fillings safely, i.e. with elaborate precautions. I became involved in consumer efforts to ban mercury in dentistry after experiencing personal health problems which I ultimately traced back to mercury exposure from dental amalgam during my teen years and early twenties. As many anti-amalgam activists know, mercury is an insidous toxin. Now that I know silver fillings are made of mercury my background in engineering and  physics gives me an ideal background to understand the scientific arguments behind the use of amalgam. I testified at two FDA hearings on this topic and continue to work with consumer groups to make the public aware of the science behind this issue.

I've spent over 35 years researching mercury amalgam fillings and gum disease, the two most important oral health problems in this country. I've also extensively researched mercury detoxification and developed a safe and natural mercury detoxification program. In addition to have written three books on these subjects, my website has over 370 pages of information that you won’t find anywhere else. Such as how to find mercury free and mercury safe dentists, the health hazards of mercury amalgam fillings, symptoms and diseases related to chronic mercury poisoning, and how to test for mercury.

I gew up in Connecticut and am a retired reference librarian and library branch supervisor. Prior to my mercury amalgam breakdown, I was a jogger and a long-distance hiker. I have been the vice president of Dental Amalgam Mercury Solutions (DAMS) since 1995.  Prior to that I worked with my state representative to have Informed Consent bills introduced in two successive years, '94 and '95. The bills died in Committee (no sponsors). I joined DAMS just about as soon as anyone could, right after I heard it was founded.  I was the Pennsylvania DAMS coordinator for S.E. Pa. (still am)

As a new mother of very premature twins with challenging health problems, I found that doctors and other professionals offered only drugs as the solution. To help heal my children I attended alternative medicine and nutritional seminars, performed extensive research on ADHD and other health-related issues. In addition to being a frequent guest speaker on radio shows through out the USA and Canada, I'm also a consultant to parents who need support and resources regarding their children’s individual needs.

I served as a medic in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966 and obtained my M.S. in Chemistry at the University of Idaho and my Ph.D. in Chemistry/Biochemistry at Washington State University in 1971. Additionally I was an NIH Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Physiology, Yale University Medical School from 1971 to 1974. From 1996 to 2005 I was Chair and Professor of Chemistry / Biochemistry in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Kentucky. Over the last two decades I have lectured throughout the world and testified before Congressional committees and the Institute of Medicine regarding various aspects of mercury toxicity and neurological diseases.
